Where it came from
Salvete Flores, Obras De García Benayas was released in 2016 as a specialized project dedicated to the recovery and dissemination of the works of the 18th-century Spanish composer Matías García Benayas. The recording serves as a historical document, capturing liturgical polyphony and chant that had largely been absent from the contemporary classical canon, reflecting a broader movement among early music ensembles to preserve regional Iberian sacred music.
The production features the ensemble Vox Stellae, directed by Luís Martínez, with the participation of Joaquín Barreira. The recording was designed to showcase the intricate, melodic structure of Benayas's compositions, utilizing period-informed vocal techniques to recreate the acoustic environment for which the music was originally intended. Upon its release, it was noted by critics for its meticulous attention to historical accuracy and its contribution to the catalog of Galician sacred music.
