Where it came from
Seda was released in 1996 on Siesta Records, a label deeply embedded in the mid-nineties downtempo and acid jazz movement. The album emerged during a period when labels like Siesta were instrumental in curating a sophisticated, lounge-influenced sound that blended global rhythms with electronic production, appealing to the growing popularity of chill-out culture across Europe and beyond.
The album reflects the collaborative spirit of the era, bringing together various musicians under the Toukouleur project to explore textured soundscapes. Its design and aesthetic leaned into the minimalist, sleek visual identity common to Siesta's catalog, which sought to position electronic music as an elegant and atmospheric listening experience rather than just dance-floor filler.
