Provenance

Where it came from

This 2022 release from Moscow Conservatory Records serves as a specialized archival presentation of vocal works by Sergei Prokofiev. It brings together soprano Lyubov Petrova and pianist Elena Savelieva to explore a selection of the composer’s songs and chamber vocal pieces, capturing the nuanced, idiosyncratic lyricism that defined Prokofiev's approach to the Russian art song tradition. The production reflects the conservatory's ongoing mission to document and preserve high-level interpretations of the Russian classical canon.

The album is noted for its focus on the intimate dialogue between voice and piano, a hallmark of Prokofiev's mature style which often balanced sharp, percussive elements with moments of profound, unexpected tenderness. By pairing these artists, the recording aims to highlight the harmonic sophistication of the scores, providing a clean, scholarly reading that emphasizes clarity and technical precision over romantic excess. It has been received as a deliberate contribution to the discography of 20th-century Russian vocal music, intended primarily for researchers and dedicated collectors of the Prokofiev repertoire.
