Dmitry Shostakovich - Composer & Pianist

The 2013 Moscow Conservatory Records release of Dmitri Shostakovich: Composer & Pianist represents a significant archival project designed to preserve the composer's legacy as a performer. These recordings were drawn from the extensive historical vaults of the Moscow Conservatory, where Shostakovich’s personal connection to the institution remained strong throughout his career. The collection serves as a primary historical record, documenting his interpretative approach to his own works and the broader piano repertoire, providing listeners with an authentic window into his aesthetic intentions.

The release was curated to highlight the juxtaposition between Shostakovich’s compositional genius and his technical prowess as a concert pianist, a role he often performed with stark intensity. By digitizing these source materials, the label aimed to maintain the integrity of the original performances for scholarly study and public appreciation.
