Symphonie Nr. 1 C-Dur . Carmen-Suite Nr. 1 & 2

This recording features the Bamberger Symphoniker under the baton of French conductor Georges Prêtre, interpreting Georges Bizet’s Symphonie Nr. 1 in C Major alongside his two Carmen Suites. The production was released on the Parnass label, a series often associated with distributing classical repertoire to a wider audience through specialized catalogs and subscription services during the mid-to-late 20th century.

Georges Prêtre was celebrated for his idiomatic and spirited command of French orchestral music, and his collaboration with the Bamberg Symphony showcases the ensemble’s technical precision and tonal warmth. These works represent Bizet’s melodic brilliance, with the symphony showcasing his early mastery of classical structure and the Carmen suites highlighting his unparalleled ability to weave evocative, dramatic narratives through orchestral color.
