The Benoit / Freeman Project 2

The Benoit/Freeman Project 2, released in 2004 on the Peak Records label, serves as the second collaborative studio effort between contemporary jazz staples David Benoit and Russ Freeman. Following the success of their initial 1994 partnership, this project was conceived to revisit the synergy between Benoit’s melodic piano sensibilities and Freeman’s signature guitar-driven production style within the smooth jazz landscape of the early 2000s.

The design and production were centered on creating a polished, adult-contemporary soundscape that reflected the evolving aesthetics of the genre during that period. By blending light funk, R&B elements, and instrumental pop, the duo aimed to appeal to their long-standing audience while maintaining the sophisticated, professional recording standards characteristic of Peak Records. Upon release, the album was generally received by listeners as a reliable continuation of the pair's established musical dialogue.
