Where it came from
Released in 2015 by the Scottish independent label Greentrax, The Best of Mrs Bruce's Boys serves as a retrospective compilation for brothers Ian and Fraser Bruce. The duo, renowned in the Scottish folk scene, drew heavily from their family heritage and the rich tradition of music in their native Glasgow. The album title pays tribute to their mother, whose influence and repertoire formed the foundation of their early musical education and career-long dedication to storytelling through song.
The collection features a selection of the brothers' most celebrated recordings, capturing their blend of traditional Scottish folk and original songwriting. Designed to showcase their vocal harmonies and acoustic instrumentation, the album was received as a definitive overview of their contribution to the modern folk revival. Like much of the Greentrax catalog, the design prioritizes historical documentation and the preservation of regional culture over flashier aesthetics, reflecting the earnest and communal spirit of the genre.
