Where it came from
The Karens' self-titled 2023 release functions as a direct introduction to the band's aesthetic and musical philosophy. Produced under their independent imprint, Karens Records, the album serves as a definitive statement of intent, emerging from a contemporary landscape where artists increasingly favor autonomy and self-distributed platforms to maintain creative control over their debut output.
The design and sonic composition of the album reflect a focused, lo-fi sensibilities, prioritizing raw energy over elaborate studio polish. By keeping the production lean, the group aimed to capture a sense of immediate, unfiltered performance that characterizes their live reputation, a choice that has resonated with listeners who value authenticity and independent spirit in modern independent music.
