Provenance

Where it came from

The Magic of Roger Roger is a compilation album released by the French label Galerie in 2005. It serves as a retrospective of the work of Roger Roger, a prolific French composer known for his extensive contributions to library music, film scores, and orchestral arrangements throughout the mid-20th century. By curating this selection, the label aimed to highlight Roger's signature blend of jazz, easy listening, and avant-garde soundscapes that defined the French recording industry of his era.

The design and curation of this release reflect a broader mid-2000s resurgence of interest in vintage library music, which was increasingly sought after by DJs, producers, and collectors for its unique production textures and experimental flair. Roger Roger, a master of mood music who often composed under various pseudonyms, was celebrated for his ability to craft highly evocative, polished compositions. This collection was well-received by fans of lounge and retro-electronic music, who appreciated the archival effort to bring his eclectic, often whimsical catalog to a contemporary audience.
