Where it came from
Released in 2009 by PolyEast Records, The Story of FrancisM serves as a definitive retrospective anthology of the work of Francis Magalona, the legendary Filipino rapper and cultural icon. This collection was curated shortly following his passing to honor his transformative influence on OPM, specifically his role in elevating hip-hop as a mainstream medium in the Philippines. The set functions as both a musical archive and a tribute, compiling his most significant contributions to the genre from the late 1980s through the 2000s.
The design of the collector's edition reflects Magalona’s deep commitment to national identity, incorporating elements of his signature patriotic iconography, including stylized Philippine flag motifs. The packaging was intended to be a commemorative piece for his fanbase, highlighting the evolution of his sound from the pioneering tracks of the 'Yo!' era to his socially conscious later works. It was received as a essential preservation of his legacy, serving as a primary reference point for students of Filipino music history.
