Provenance

Where it came from

Released in 2024 by Decca Records, this compilation serves as a comprehensive retrospective celebrating the 80th birthday of Welsh composer Karl Jenkins. The collection draws from his expansive body of work, spanning his transition from progressive jazz-rock with the bands Nucleus and Soft Machine to his monumental success in the classical crossover genre with projects like Adiemus, The Armed Man, and Requiem.

The album was curated to highlight the distinctive melodic language that defines Jenkins' career, blending traditional choral structures with contemporary world music influences. It functions both as an entry point for new listeners and a commemorative set for long-time followers, reflecting the composer's role as one of the most frequently performed living composers today. The presentation emphasizes the atmospheric, spiritual resonance that has characterized his signature sound across decades of recordings.
