Thomas Jensen Legacy, Volume 13

The Thomas Jensen Legacy series was launched by the Danish label Danacord as a comprehensive archival project dedicated to preserving the recorded output of the esteemed Danish conductor Thomas Jensen. Volume 13 focuses on his interpretations of works by Carl Nielsen and Jean Sibelius, composers with whom Jensen shared a deep interpretive affinity. These recordings were curated from various radio broadcasts and sessions, reflecting Jensen's long tenure as the conductor of the Danish State Radio Symphony Orchestra, where he played a pivotal role in establishing the standard for performing the Nordic symphonic canon.

The series design maintains a minimalist, scholarly aesthetic consistent with Danacord's archival releases, prioritizing the historical integrity of the audio over ornate packaging. The collection was developed to provide listeners and musicologists with cleaned, remastered access to performances that were previously scattered or held in private archives. It has been received by the classical music community as a vital documentation of mid-20th-century Scandinavian conducting traditions, capturing Jensen’s characteristic structural clarity and sensitivity to the pastoral textures inherent in Nielsen and Sibelius’s orchestration.
