Where it came from
The Thomas Jensen Legacy series is a long-standing archival project curated by the Danish label Danacord, dedicated to preserving and reissuing the broadcast recordings of the renowned Danish conductor Thomas Jensen. Volume 17, released in 2023, continues the label's commitment to documenting the musical heritage of the Danish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, focusing on mid-20th-century performances that capture Jensen's interpretative approach to the core Germanic symphonic repertoire.
This volume features works by Beethoven, Haydn, and Brahms, reflecting the standard repertoire that defined Jensen's tenure as a principal conductor. The design and production follow Danacord's established aesthetic for the series, which emphasizes historical integrity and accessibility for classical music enthusiasts. Upon its release, the volume was received by critics as a valuable addition to the documentation of Scandinavian conducting history, appreciated for its contribution to the preservation of radio broadcast performances that might otherwise have been lost to time.
