Where it came from
Released in 2021 by the Danish label Danacord, Thomas Jensen Legacy, Volume 2 continues the archival project dedicated to preserving the recorded output of the renowned Danish conductor Thomas Jensen. Jensen served as the principal conductor of the Danish National Radio Symphony Orchestra for many years and is widely credited with establishing the standard for the interpretation of Carl Nielsen’s symphonies, a composer he knew personally and championed throughout his career.
This collection functions as a scholarly restoration of historic broadcast tapes, aiming to provide modern listeners with clear access to Jensen’s mid-20th-century performances. The series was designed to showcase his idiomatic approach to the Nordic repertoire, focusing on precise orchestral textures and emotional depth. Critics have noted that these releases are essential for understanding the lineage of Danish conducting, capturing a specific era of orchestral sound that defined the Scandinavian classical tradition.
