Toukokuu

Toukokuu was released in 1996 as part of the later career output of Kirka, one of Finland's most enduring and versatile musical figures. By the mid-1990s, Kirka had already spent decades navigating various genres from rock and soul to the Finnish schlager tradition, and this release reflects the polished, melodic adult contemporary sound that defined his work during that era. It was produced under the RCA label, which served as a home for many of his successful recordings during his transition into a staple of the Finnish mainstream music scene.

The album reflects the collaborative spirit typical of Kirka's studio projects, featuring contributions from songwriters and producers familiar with the nuances of the Nordic pop landscape. Musically, it aims for a blend of sentimental balladry and accessible pop-rock, tailored to the artist's distinctive, raspy vocal delivery. While it did not alter the trajectory of his long career, the album remains a recognized piece of his mid-nineties discography, often noted by fans for its consistency and its place within the vast body of work he compiled before his passing in 2007.
