Where it came from
Toukomst was released in 2012 by the Groningen-based musician and producer Arnold Veeman under the 100% Kunst label. The album emerged from the regional cultural landscape of the Northern Netherlands, serving as a creative exploration of the Gronings dialect and identity. Veeman, known for his multidisciplinary approach to music and performance, sought to bridge traditional linguistic roots with contemporary acoustic and folk-inspired compositions.
The project was conceived as an intimate reflection on the changing face of the Groninger landscape and the passage of time. Veeman’s design and artistic direction prioritize a minimalist, earthy aesthetic that aligns with the lyrical themes of land and heritage. Upon its release, the album was received as a thoughtful contribution to the regional music scene, appreciated by critics for its earnest sincerity and Veeman’s dedication to preserving the nuances of his native tongue through song.
