Where it came from
Transition Cosmic Power was released in 2012 on the long-standing French jazz label Black and Blue, a company with a storied history of documenting both American legends and emerging European talent. This album serves as a collaborative exploration of modern jazz, featuring a quintet led by pianist Jean-Sébastien Simonoviez and saxophonist Gaël Horellou, alongside vocalist Clara Simonoviez and rhythm section members François-Régis Gallix and Géraud Portal.
The album is noted for its blend of post-bop sensibilities and atmospheric, experimental textures that define the group's sonic identity during this period. The project was conceived as a platform for original compositions that lean into harmonic complexity and improvisation, reflecting a creative effort to push beyond traditional hard-bop boundaries. Upon its release, the record was recognized by jazz critics within the French scene as a thoughtful contribution to the contemporary European jazz landscape, highlighting the technical proficiency and cohesive interplay of the ensemble members.
