Where it came from
Transmissions: The Music Of Beverly Glenn-Copeland serves as a career-spanning retrospective, released in 2020 by Transgressive Records to bring wider recognition to the work of the Canadian singer-songwriter. The compilation gathers material from Glenn-Copeland’s earlier, more obscure albums, most notably his 1986 self-released electronic masterpiece Keyboard Fantasies. The collection was curated during a period of late-career discovery for the artist, prompted by the renewed interest of younger listeners who found resonance in his unique blend of folk, jazz, and synthesized soundscapes.
The design and sequencing of the release reflect a deliberate effort to synthesize the varied phases of Glenn-Copeland’s artistic journey, moving from his acoustic compositions to the pioneering, home-recorded synthesizer music that eventually found a global cult following. By highlighting the raw, atmospheric textures of these works, the label aimed to frame his output as a foundational influence on modern experimental and ambient music. Upon its arrival, the compilation was widely praised by critics for its warmth and its success in contextualizing a singular, long-overlooked body of work.
