Unfassbar (Musikalische Fenster Ins Markus-Evangelium)

Released by Gerth Medien in 2022, Unfassbar represents a collaborative effort between journalist and songwriter Christoph Zehendner, composer Hans Joachim Eissler, and musician Ralf Schuon. The project functions as a musical exploration of the Gospel of Mark, designed to offer listeners a contemporary, contemplative encounter with biblical narrative. It emerged from the longstanding tradition of German Christian music production, which seeks to combine theological depth with accessible, melodic arrangements.

The album is characterized by a deliberate, minimalist aesthetic that prioritizes the clarity of the lyrical content, reflecting Zehendner's background as a journalist and poet. By weaving together spoken-word elements with instrumental passages, the creators aimed to create a 'musical window' into the text rather than a traditional song cycle. Upon its release, the work was received as a significant addition to the catalog of liturgical art, praised by critics for its atmospheric production and its ability to modernize ancient theological themes for a modern audience.
