Where it came from
Released in 1990 under the Polydor label, this self-titled album marked a significant moment for French singer-songwriter Véronique Rivière as she transitioned from her work as a backing vocalist to a solo artist. The collection captures the sophisticated chanson-pop sound prevalent in the French music industry at the turn of the decade, featuring polished production that highlights Rivière's introspective lyrics and vocal delivery.
The album is perhaps best remembered for the track 'Capitaine', a song that gained notable radio play and remains the artist's most recognizable signature piece. Critics of the era noted the album's earnest craftsmanship and its place within the broader landscape of late eighties and early nineties French pop, reflecting an era where lyrical depth was often balanced with accessible, melody-driven arrangements.
