Where it came from
Released in 2022 by Harmonia Mundi, this recording features violinist Théotime Langlois de Swarte performing works by Jean-Marie Leclair, Antonio Vivaldi, and Pietro Antonio Locatelli. The project was developed in collaboration with the ensemble Les Ombres, directed by Margaux Blanchard and Sylvain Sartre, to highlight the virtuoso violin repertoire of the 18th century. The selection emphasizes the dramatic flair and technical agility characteristic of the Italian and French Baroque styles, aiming to showcase the expressive range of the instrument during this period.
The production was received as a significant contribution to the historically informed performance movement, with particular praise directed at de Swarte's nuanced and energetic interpretation. By pairing the technical intensity of Locatelli and Leclair with the coloristic approach of Vivaldi, the ensemble sought to bridge the gap between rigorous scholarship and emotional storytelling. The resulting album is recognized for its clarity and the intimate, collaborative chemistry between the soloist and the period-instrument ensemble.
