Where it came from
Vlaamse Meisjes Van Vandaag was released in 1996 through Dino Music, a label prominent in the Benelux region for its focus on popular compilations and contemporary pop music. The album emerged during a period when the Belgian pop scene was heavily influenced by local iterations of dance and radio-friendly pop, often capturing the cultural zeitgeist of Flemish youth culture at the time.
The album serves as a thematic collection centered on the identity and lifestyle of young women in Flanders during the mid-nineties. Raff Vetrugno, acting as the primary artist and creative force, tapped into the melodic pop sensibilities prevalent in Belgian media of the era. The production aimed for a polished, accessible sound that mirrored the aesthetic of commercial radio programming, finding its primary audience among listeners of local hit parades and television variety shows.
