Where it came from
Released in 2016 on The Record Company label, What's Up? marks a significant project from Klaus 'Major' Heuser, the longtime lead guitarist and songwriter for the German rock band BAP. After decades of shaping the sound of one of Germany's most successful rock acts, Heuser moved toward a more personal, blues-inflected solo direction with this record. The album serves as a reflection of his enduring interest in guitar-driven compositions, blending classic rock sensibilities with the meticulous production expected of a veteran musician.
The album reflects a shift away from the large-scale stadium sound of Heuser's past toward a more intimate, band-oriented studio experience. Featuring guest vocalists and a tight ensemble, the work was received by fans of German rock as a bridge between his established identity and his evolving artistic independence. The design and sonic palette prioritize authenticity and musical craftsmanship, signaling a departure from the collaborative pressures of his earlier career in favor of a curated, individual statement.
