Where it came from
The Cruel Peace, released in 1988 on the Belgian label Megadisc, stands as a hallmark of the late-eighties industrial and dark ambient scene. It was produced by Wrede, a project deeply rooted in the experimental electronic landscapes of the era, reflecting the bleak, cold-war aesthetic that permeated much of the European underground music circuit at the time.
The album's cover art, credited to the artist Gore, captures the stark, minimalist tension that defined the label's visual identity. By stripping away extraneous decorative elements, the design seeks to mirror the sonic austerity of the record itself. While the album remained an underground fixture, it garnered respect within post-industrial circles for its uncompromising sound design and its adherence to the era's signature brooding atmosphere.
