Where it came from
Released in 2019 through Les Disques Musicor, this self-titled album serves as the debut studio project for Yama Laurent, a Haitian-born singer who gained significant national recognition in Quebec after winning the sixth season of the television competition La Voix. The collection was produced to showcase Laurent's powerful vocal range and emotional depth, blending contemporary pop sensibilities with soulful arrangements that emphasize her personal journey and artistic identity.
The album features a mix of original tracks and selected interpretations, carefully curated to highlight the vocal prowess that endeared her to a wide television audience. The design and production reflect a transition from a competitive performance environment to a professional studio setting, aiming to establish Laurent as a solo recording artist. Upon its release, the album was met with favorable attention from the Quebec music industry, marking a foundational moment in her post-competition career.
