1 Dollar - Elizabeth II (3rd Portrait - Barcelona Olympics - Silver Proof)

The 1992 one-dollar coin was issued by the Royal Australian Mint to commemorate Australia's participation in the Games of the XXV Olympiad in Barcelona. This silver proof commemorative piece served as a tribute to the Australian Olympic Team, capturing the national pride surrounding the country's athletes as they competed on the global stage. It represents a period when Australia was increasingly utilizing its circulating and collector currency to mark significant international cultural and sporting milestones.

The reverse design features an artistic representation of a stylized athlete in motion, reflecting the vigor and dynamism of Olympic competition. The obverse depicts Raphael Maklouf’s third effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, which was the standard portrait used on Australian coinage during that era. The coin was struck in sterling silver to a proof finish, a high-quality standard intended for numismatic collectors who valued the crisp relief and mirrored fields that distinguish official commemorative issues from standard circulation currency.
