1 Dollar - Elizabeth II (4th Portrait - War Declared)

The 2014 Australian one-dollar coin featuring the theme 'War Declared' was issued by the Royal Australian Mint as part of a multi-year commemorative series marking the centenary of the First World War. This specific issue honors the moment in 1914 when Australia pledged its support to the British Empire at the onset of the Great War, serving as a solemn numismatic reflection on the nation's entry into a global conflict that would define much of its early twentieth-century identity.

The coin features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley on the obverse, a standard design for Australian circulating currency during this period. The reverse, designed by Mint artist Aleksandra Stokic, depicts a poignant scene of a soldier and a family member, intended to evoke the personal and societal gravity of the declaration. The coin was released into general circulation and as part of collector sets, where it was noted for its historical focus and traditional design aesthetic, receiving steady interest from those interested in military history.
