1 Franc

The 1924 1 Franc coin for French Cameroon was minted during the interwar period when the territory was administered by France under a League of Nations mandate. Produced at the Paris Mint, these coins were designed to facilitate commerce in the newly reorganized mandate, reflecting the administrative shift following the Treaty of Versailles. The coin is composed of a cupro-nickel alloy, typical for colonial currency of that era, meant to withstand the humid climate of the region while maintaining a standardized value tied to the French franc.

The design features the traditional motifs of the era, notably the French Marianne or thematic agricultural imagery common to French colonial issues, intended to project institutional stability and authority. It was produced by the master engravers at the Paris Mint, who adhered to the strict aesthetic guidelines of the French Third Republic. While primarily functional for daily trade, the series is now studied for its representation of early 20th-century colonial numismatics and the specific economic policies imposed on the Mandate territory during the mid-1920s.
