Where it came from
The 1995 Argentine 1 Peso coin was issued by the Central Bank of Argentina to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations. Struck during a period of monetary stability under the Convertibility Plan, the commemorative issue served as a diplomatic nod to Argentina's role within the international organization. It was released into general circulation alongside the standard series, though its distinct reverse design made it a frequent target for collectors.
The design features the standard portrait of General José de San Martín on the obverse, while the reverse replaces the traditional sun emblem with the official United Nations 50th-anniversary logo, featuring the iconic globe and olive branch motif. The artistic execution prioritizes clean, minimalist lines typical of Argentine decimal coinage of the 1990s, aiming to balance national heritage with the internationalist theme of the celebration. It was received as a standard circulating commemorative, widely accessible to the public at the time of issue.
