½ Real - Charles IV

The 1791 ½ Real was struck at the Potosí Mint in modern-day Bolivia, which was then part of the Spanish Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata. During this period, the Potosí Mint was among the most prolific in the Spanish Empire, utilizing the vast silver deposits of the Cerro Rico mountain to supply currency for global trade. This small denomination piece, featuring the profile of King Charles IV, served as essential circulating currency for minor daily transactions within the colonial economy and throughout Spanish territories in the Americas.

The design follows the standard Spanish colonial aesthetic of the late 18th century, showcasing the monarch's portrait on the obverse and the crowned Spanish arms flanked by pillars of Hercules on the reverse.
