10 Dollars - Elizabeth II (2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa)

This 10-dollar coin was issued by the Cook Islands in 2009 to commemorate the 2010 FIFA World Cup held in South Africa. As a commemorative legal tender coin, it was produced to celebrate the global sporting event, which marked the first time the tournament was hosted on the African continent. The issuance reflects the common practice of smaller nations producing thematic numismatic collectibles to appeal to international sports fans and coin collectors during high-profile global events.

The design typically features the effigy of Queen Elizabeth II on the obverse, as is standard for Cook Islands coinage, while the reverse side highlights motifs associated with the World Cup, such as soccer balls or geographical elements of the host nation. These coins were produced with a focus on high-quality finishes, often utilizing proof-like surfaces to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the commemorative imagery. They were distributed primarily through private mints and numismatic wholesalers as collector-focused assets rather than for circulation.
