5 Dollars - Elizabeth II (The Moon)

The 2009 Cook Islands 5 Dollar Moon coin was issued as part of a series of numismatic collectibles focused on space exploration and celestial bodies. Produced under the authority of the Cook Islands government, these coins are primarily minted for the international collector market rather than for circulation. They serve as commemorative pieces that celebrate significant scientific themes, often utilizing unique finishes or inset materials to appeal to astronomy enthusiasts and numismatists alike.

The coin features a design that highlights the lunar surface, often utilizing high-relief techniques or photographic-style printing common to private minting programs during this era. These releases were generally designed to bring tangible, artistic interpretations of space science to a wider audience, focusing on visual engagement and thematic detail. While received as novelty items by traditional collectors, they remain representative of the 2000s trend toward thematic, non-circulating legal tender coins issued by island nations.
