10 Kreuzers - Hieronymus von Colloredo

The 10 Kreuzers coin minted in 1774 belongs to the numismatic history of the Archbishopric of Salzburg, a sovereign ecclesiastical state within the Holy Roman Empire. This specific issue was produced during the reign of Hieronymus von Colloredo, the last Prince-Archbishop of Salzburg, who presided over the region during a period of enlightenment-era reforms that aimed to modernize the state's administration and economy.

Designed during a time of transition, the coin reflects the formal iconography typical of late 18th-century Austrian and German coinage. It features the traditional heraldry of the Archbishopric on one side and the portrait of Colloredo on the other, adhering to the stylistic expectations of the era for circulating silver currency. While Colloredo's rule was often marked by friction with the local citizenry and court employees, his coinage remains a documented artifact of the transition between the old aristocratic order and the changing political landscape of Europe prior to the Napoleonic era.
