Where it came from
The 2018 Alderney 100 Pound coin was minted to commemorate the centenary of the Armistice, marking the end of the First World War. Issued under the authority of Alderney, a constituent part of the Bailiwick of Guernsey, these high-denomination coins were part of a wider numismatic program intended to honor the sacrifices made during the conflict. The design serves as a solemn tribute to the events of 1918, reflecting the significance of the remembrance period for the British Isles.
The coin features an intricate design by the Royal Mint's engraving team, adhering to traditional commemorative standards. It incorporates symbolic imagery intended to convey peace and reflection, consistent with the aesthetic language used across the Royal Mint’s 2018 World War I remembrance collection. The piece was well-received by collectors who specialize in military history and Commonwealth numismatics, specifically for its substantial weight and gold content, which elevated its status beyond typical circulating currency.
