2 Dollars - Elizabeth II (Snoopy)

This 2018 two-dollar coin was issued by the Cook Islands as part of a commemorative series celebrating the enduring legacy of Charles M. Schulz’s 'Peanuts' comic strip. Legal tender within the islands, the coin was struck to mark the global cultural impact of Snoopy, the imaginative beagle who first appeared in 1950. These coins were primarily marketed toward international numismatic collectors and fans of the franchise, serving as both a formal currency denomination and a collectible keepsake rather than for circulation.

The design features a colorized depiction of Snoopy, often capturing his distinct personality through minimalist, clean lines that remain faithful to Schulz’s original aesthetic. Produced with a proof-like finish, the coin emphasizes the contrast between the polished relief of the characters and the frosted or patterned background. It reflects a wider industry trend of sovereign nations issuing pop-culture-themed coinage, a strategy that seeks to broaden the appeal of coin collecting to younger generations and enthusiasts of twentieth-century animation and print media.
