Where it came from
The 2005 20-cent gold proof coin was issued by the Royal Australian Mint to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II. It serves as a tribute to the service and sacrifice of Australians during the conflict, featuring a design that emphasizes remembrance and national identity. The coin was produced as a limited collector's issue, distinct from the standard circulating coinage, to appeal to numismatists seeking high-quality commemorative pieces.
The reverse design features an evocative depiction of a dove of peace flying above a representation of the Australian landscape, symbolizing the transition from war to post-conflict recovery. The obverse bears Ian Rank-Broadley’s mature portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, which was the standard effigy for Australian coinage at the time. The piece was well-received by the collecting community for its fine craftsmanship and its role in marking a significant milestone in Australian history.
