Where it came from
The 2007 20-cent gold proof coin was issued by the Royal Australian Mint to commemorate the centenary of the Australian Surf Life Saving movement. The reverse design features a stylized representation of a surf lifesaver patrolling the beach, a tribute to the volunteer spirit that has become an iconic element of Australian coastal culture since the first formal clubs were established in 1907.
Designed by Wojciech Pietranik, the coin reflects the artist's hallmark clean lines and balanced composition. Released as a premium numismatic offering, this gold proof version was struck to a high standard of finish, catering to collectors seeking a precious metal iteration of the circulation design. It stands as a significant piece within the long-running series of Australian commemorative coins honoring social institutions.
