Where it came from
The 25-pound gold proof coin celebrating Pink Floyd was minted by The Royal Mint as part of their Music Legends series, which honors iconic British musical acts. Released in the mid-2020s, this series captures the cultural impact of legendary bands through commemorative coinage, blending numismatic craftsmanship with the visual iconography of rock history.
The coin features a design inspired by the prism motif from the 1973 album The Dark Side of the Moon, a symbol synonymous with the band's aesthetic. The design team at The Royal Mint focused on creating a sophisticated tribute that would appeal to both numismatists and fans of the progressive rock genre, emphasizing high-relief detail and a reflective proof finish that highlights the geometric clarity of the iconic prism artwork.
