Where it came from
The 2020 Australian 3000 Dollar gold coin was minted by the Royal Australian Mint to commemorate the Australian Olympic Team's participation in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. The release reflects the longstanding tradition of Australian numismatic issues serving as patriotic markers for major sporting events, produced during a period when the games faced unprecedented postponement and global attention due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The coin features the sixth effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Jody Clark, which has been the standard portrait on Australian currency since 2019. The reverse side was crafted to showcase the spirit of competition and national pride, incorporating symbols associated with the Australian Olympic Committee. As a high-denomination bullion piece, it was primarily intended for investment and commemorative purposes rather than circulation, receiving interest from collectors who focus on modern Australian gold coinage.
