Where it came from
Released by the Royal Australian Mint in 2012, this coin was issued to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, marking sixty years of her reign. The design captures a significant moment in Commonwealth history, celebrating the enduring constitutional link between Australia and the Crown through the medium of high-quality numismatic art.
The reverse design features an intricate depiction of the St Edward’s Crown, rendered with a selective frosting process that contrasts against the mirror-like proof finish of the silver. The obverse displays Ian Rank-Broadley’s fourth portrait of the Queen, which was the standard effigy for Australian coinage at the time. As a silver proof striking, the piece was intended primarily for collectors, emphasizing craftsmanship and commemorative sentiment rather than everyday circulation.
