50 Cents - Elizabeth II (4th Portrait - Fromelles)

The 2016 Fromelles 50 cent coin was issued by the Royal Australian Mint to commemorate the centenary of the Battle of Fromelles, the first major battle fought by the Australian Imperial Force on the Western Front during the First World War. The design serves as a solemn tribute to the soldiers who served and died in the 1916 conflict, featuring an artistic interpretation of the battle alongside inscriptions reflecting its historical significance. It reflects the Australian government's broader commemorative program for the Anzac Centenary, which sought to honor the sacrifice and service of Australian personnel.

The reverse design was crafted by the Royal Australian Mint’s design team, focusing on a balance between historical accuracy and numismatic artistry. The imagery incorporates elements representing the landscape of the Western Front and the spirit of the soldiers, executed in a traditional minted relief common to the Australian circulation commemorative series. Upon its release, the coin was well-received by collectors and the general public, serving as both a functional unit of currency and a widely accessible piece of historical remembrance.
