5000 Francs CFA (Fortune Bag; gold plated)

The 2022 5000 Francs CFA coin from Chad, often referred to as the Fortune Bag, was minted as part of a contemporary series of bullion and commemorative coins intended to blend traditional currency motifs with unconventional, modern aesthetic designs. Issued under the authority of the Republic of Chad, the coin utilizes a gold-plated finish to enhance its ornamental appeal, departing from standard circulation coins to cater specifically to the collector market. These issues are typically produced in collaboration with private minting facilities that focus on high-relief technology and symbolic themes meant to evoke luck and prosperity.

The design of the Fortune Bag represents a fusion of global cultural iconography and numismatic experimentation. By depicting a motif associated with wealth, the designers aimed to transform the functional role of currency into a physical talisman, appealing to collectors interested in thematic precious metal objects. While these coins are legal tender in the CEMAC region, their production is primarily driven by their commemorative value, and they are generally received by the numismatic community as specialty pieces rather than standard fiscal instruments.
