Where it came from
This 1000 Francs CFA coin was issued by Chad in 2019 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Such commemorative issues are part of a broader series of coins commissioned by various African nations through international minting intermediaries to honor significant geopolitical milestones or global cultural themes. These pieces are typically struck in base metal with specialized finishes, such as colorization or partial gilding, designed to appeal to thematic collectors of numismatic world coins.
The design highlights bilateral diplomatic ties, featuring imagery intended to signify the historical partnership between the two nations. While the aesthetic reflects the standards of modern commemorative minting—often prioritizing visual saturation and symbolic motifs over traditional circulating design—it serves primarily as a decorative collectible. Reception among numismatists has been consistent with other modern commemorative issues from the region, viewed largely as a niche acquisition for those documenting China-themed political memorabilia.
