Where it came from
A Silent Voice, originally titled Koe no Katachi, was authored and illustrated by Yoshitoki Oima. It first appeared as a one-shot in Bessatsu Shonen Magazine in 2011 before being serialized in Weekly Shonen Magazine from 2013 to 2014. The story follows Shoya Ishida, a former bully, and Shoko Nishimiya, a deaf girl he once tormented, exploring themes of redemption, disability, and social isolation. The series was critically acclaimed for its nuanced portrayal of communication barriers and mental health.
The Complete Collector's Edition was released by Kodansha USA to provide a premium reading experience for the series. Designed with a larger trim size and high-quality paper stock, these volumes aim to showcase Oima's expressive, detailed line work more effectively than the standard tankobon releases. The edition has been well-received by collectors who value the physical presentation of the manga as an art form, effectively bridging the gap between casual reading and a commemorative archive of the influential series.
