Where it came from
Action Comics Weekly #605 was published in June 1988 as part of an experimental phase for DC Comics' flagship title. Following the publication of the 600th issue, the editorial team transitioned the book from its traditional monthly anthology format into a weekly publication schedule. This shift was designed to emulate the serial nature of newspaper strips, allowing for multiple ongoing storylines to unfold simultaneously in a condensed format.
The issue featured a rotating cast of characters, including Green Lantern, Blackhawk, and Deadman, showcasing the diverse stable of talent working at DC during the late 1980s. The design and narrative direction were overseen by editor Mike Carlin, who aimed to maintain narrative momentum across a weekly cadence. While the experiment provided a unique platform for serialized storytelling, the rigorous production demands eventually led the title to return to its standard monthly format in 1989.
