Action Comics Weekly #607

Action Comics Weekly #607, published in July 1988, represents a bold, short-lived experiment by DC Comics to shift their flagship title from a monthly comic book to a weekly anthology format. This transition was part of a broader industry trend in the late 1980s aimed at increasing the frequency of contact with readers and testing the viability of serialized weekly storytelling, a format that had seen success in the British market but was relatively untested in the American mainstream.

This specific issue features a continuation of the anthology's rotating cast, including characters like Green Lantern, Black Canary, and Deadman. The design and editorial direction were spearheaded by DC staff during a period of creative experimentation under editors like Mike Carlin. While the weekly format eventually proved logistically and creatively demanding, leading the title back to its traditional monthly roots, it remains a notable artifact of DC's attempt to redefine the delivery of the superhero genre in the post-Crisis on Infinite Earths era.
