Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters #8

Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters #8 was published in 1986 by Eclipse Comics during the mid-eighties boom of black-and-white independent comic books. This surge was sparked by the unexpected success of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which encouraged many publishers to release similarly offbeat, parodic titles. The series was created as a direct spoof of the turtle craze, leaning into absurd, high-concept humor that characterized much of the era's counter-culture small-press output.

The series featured rotating creative teams, reflecting the experimental and often chaotic nature of the independent comic scene at the time. The design and narrative tone were intentionally derivative and irreverent, aiming to entertain readers with tropes of the martial arts genre transplanted onto rodents. While the series eventually garnered a cult following for its kitsch value, it was received at the time as a niche curiosity within a saturated market of similar animal-based parodies.
