Where it came from
Adolescent Radioactive Black Belt Hamsters issue #6 was published in 1986 by Eclipse Comics during the mid-eighties surge of anthropomorphic animal parodies. The series, created by Don Chin, was designed as a direct satirical response to the massive success of Mirage Studios' Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, leaning into the absurd and irreverent tone common in independent comics of that era.
The art and storytelling were part of an underground trend of rapid-fire comic production that prioritized zany concepts over continuity. While the series captured a niche audience of collectors interested in the parodic 'funny animal' subgenre, it remains a quintessential artifact of the independent black-and-white comic book boom, noted more for its kitsch value and status as a curiosity of the period than for high-art design.
