Where it came from
Adventure Comics #490 was published in August 1982 by DC Comics during a period when the long-running anthology series was undergoing significant experimental shifts. As the title neared its eventual hiatus, this issue served as a showcase for a rotating cast of DC's secondary features, reflecting the publisher's attempts to maintain the series' legacy while exploring new creative directions for its character roster.
The issue features work from various contributors typical of the era's house style, emphasizing the transition from Silver Age storytelling conventions to the more complex narrative structures emerging in the early 1980s. While it is not a landmark issue in terms of major character debuts or iconic cover art, it remains a notable example of the mid-tier DC anthology format that provided a monthly home for shorter features and serialized backups before the series was repurposed in subsequent years.
