Where it came from
Adventures of Bayou Billy #2 was published by Archie Comics in 1989, serving as part of a three-issue limited series intended to cross-promote Konami’s action-adventure video game released for the Nintendo Entertainment System. The series sought to translate the game's unique blend of combat, driving, and shooting mechanics into a serialized comic book format, capitalising on the high visibility of Nintendo-licensed media during the late 1980s.
The comic featured work by writer Denis Beauvais and artists who maintained the gritty, high-octane aesthetic associated with the game's protagonist, Billy West. The narrative maintained the game’s premise of rescuing Billy's girlfriend from the villainous Godfather Gordon, mirroring the typical action tropes of the era. While the series was a targeted effort to build lore around the game, it is remembered primarily by video game historians and collectors of 8-bit era memorabilia rather than as a standout title in the broader comic market.
